Research shows ‘Naad-Yoga’ reduces stress, increases self-confidence

By Chandan Sharma

Naad Yoga, an Indian system of traditional Yogic meditation through selected Indian classical music, works perfectly not just to reduce stress level in human being but also provide better adjustment capabilities. This has been revealed by researches conducted at various institutions recently. Several papers have been presented in this regard in a seminar related to Indian pattern of Clinical Psychology, recently concluded at Dev Sanskriti Vishwa Vidyalaya, Haridwar.

Four papers related to the topic of Naad Yoga and its impact on human were presented by different scholars and researchers during the three-day ‘National Seminar on Indigenous Techniques in Psychotherapy’, organised by Department of Clinical Psychology of the university. But their findings were almost same that regular practice of ‘Naad Yoga’ leaves positive impact on human behaviour.

A research was conducted on a sample of students of age group of 18-23 years. The process of meditation (through Naad Yoga) was went for 15 days, 15 minutes every day to know the ‘Effect of NaadYoga on Self – Confidence’. The findings of the research, conducted by Alpi Singh, Deepika and Sonam Vaishya, showed significant improvement self-confidence among the participants.

In another research to understand ‘Role of meditation (Nad-Yoga) on stress and anxiety level of college going students’ a group of 30 students were selected randomly. A package of Naad Yoga was provided to them for two months, 25 minutes everyday. The researchers Dr. Arun Kumar Sao, Dr. Seema and Dr. Sunil Kumar found good reduction in the level of anxiety and stress among those student after practicing the Naad-Yoga.

A similar kind of test was conducted among the students (20-30 yrs) of Lalit Mohan College, Rishikesh. Neelam Verma, the researchers found that Naad Yoga was effective to release stress.

Three researchers, Vedprakash Sahoo, Vineet Tiwari and Praveen Mangalam of Gurukul Kangri Vishwa Vidyalaya conducted a research on 20 students, dividing them into two groups on 10 students each, for 30 days. But both the groups showed positive impact towards Naad Yoga on the stress level.

“We have been practicing basically western techniques and models to understand and treat human behaviour. But these techniques are not perfectly fit in Indian context as Indian society and culture are completely different from the Western or European world”, says Chinmay Pandya, Director, School of Yoga and Health. The seminar was intended to find out our indigenous techniques of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy with perfect models, he adds.

We have tried to encourage researchers through seminar to come up with models of Indian system of Psychotherapy in the near future and not just the system that already exists, Pandya told fachcha.com.
