PM advocates for better salaries for scientists

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has advocated for the better salaries and facilities for scientists. He has said that they should be “treated differently than other Government employees” in terms of service and salary matters if the talented youths to be retained in the field of science.

In his address during the foundation stone laying ceremony of National Institute for Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhuvneshwar, Odisha on Sunday, he said that career in science and technology should be attractive. He stressed upon improvement in remuneration and to ensure integrity in the candidate selection process. The Prime Minister said that scientists having PhD qualification are getting lesser salaries than engineers, doctors and management graduates.
Showing his concern that best young minds are not coming in science the Prime Minister emphasized on the need of developing better infrastructure at the school and college level for science education.
