This has been announced by the Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today after a day-long meeting of the education ministers of various states in New Delhi. Though, states like Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry and West Bengal raised some issues regarding implementation of the proposal and asked more time to study in detail. However, the HRD Minister said that the resolution has been adopted in this regard and the new entrance test system will be introduced in 2013. System of waightage of 12th level marks too will be introduced with the system.
According to the proposal academic component of the main and advanced examinations would be handled by IITs (initially by IIT, Kanpur)and other management and conduct of examination would be handled by the CBSE. There is proposal to give 40% weightage to the 12th examination marks. IITs and central educational institutions have given their support to the proposal.
Details of the common examination will be prepared in the next two month. Prof. Dhande, Director, IIT-Kanpur and D. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology presented the reform plan on the occasion.
