DU: Issue of SOL reaches to President

The issue of eligibility criteria for admission in School of Open Learning (SOL) of Delhi University today reached to President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil. President of India is Visitor of Delhi University too. Referring violations of ordinances of Delhi University by the Vice-Chancellor Delhi University also demanded removal of V-C from its office.

In a memorandum, submitted by the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) to the President of India, says “Ironically, without application of mind, the Governing Body of SOL and the Vice Chancellor of DU illegally increased the minimum eligibility criteria for admission into B.A and B.Com in SOL from 10 + 2 pass to 40% at 12th level w.e.f  2010-11 thus jeopardizing the future of those students of Delhi who have passed 10+2 level and therefore could have taken admission in NFEC (Non-Formal External Candidate Cell) but now they cannot take admission to pursue higher education in Delhi University because of the merger of NFEC  in SOL and change in the criteria for admission in SOL at the same time. The extra courses run by NFEC were also not transferred to SOL which was another condition of merger. All these amount to completely abolishing the NFEC not only physically but also in letter and spirit from Delhi University in violation of the Delhi University Act as enacted by the Parliament of India. Only the Parliament has the power to amend its own Act.”

The issue had been raised through various forums by teachers of SOL too earlier but no ear was given by the university administration in this regard.
