Delhi gets 100 Student Traffic Volunteers

mail1The capital city Delhi got 100 students as traffic volunteers asTejendra Khanna, Lt. Governor of the city inducted 85 boys and 15 girls as the Student Traffic Volunteers at the India International Centre on Monday. During the induction the Lt. Governor said that if the citizens become more sensitive and caring about the rights of the fellow citizens then it would have a positive effect in general and it would help transform the society as a more civilized and humane because it is losing human touch.

He also handed over the identity cards to the students as a token of induction. L G Khanna said Student Traffic Volunteers should be more caring and mindful towards the non-motorists road users especially the pedestrians and cyclists as this big group in numerical strength (70%) but occupies less space (11%) on roads whereas in comparison four wheelers and motorist road users occupies large space (85%) on roads in proportionate to their numbers (30%).

He said Rajniwas is always ready to help the Student Traffic Volunteers and if required, they can provide their feedback to Lt. Governor Secretariat to help and manage the traffic flow of the
capital as Delhi Traffic is already working in tandem with them for solving the traffic problem in more effective way. Students Traffic Volunteers Scholarship Scheme was first launched in Delhi in coordination with the association of the Delhi Traffic Police in the year 1999. The aim of the STVS is to assist the traffic police during peak hours in traffic management and road user education and to give an incentive to volunteering students by way of stipend for performing a valuable and socially important task.
