Country’s highest gallantry award during the peace time, Ashok Chakra, has been awarded to Lieutenant Navdeep Singh(posthumously). President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil presented the award before opening of 63rd Republic Day Parade at Rajpath on Thursday.
Recently commissioned in the Army Ordnance Crop’s 15th Battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Navdeep Singh showed extreme courage during a battle to foil infiltration bid of a group of terrorists near the Line of Control. He got hit by a bullet on his head during the fight but he despite the injury he managed to eliminate four terrorists and made supreme sacrifice for the nation.
