If the central Government has its own way the face of Madarsa will be changed in the near future. The madarsas will teach their students general school education along with their religious teaching. After presenting plan of reforms in the general school education the Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal is working on a plan to introduce modern education in the traditional Madarsas.
Though some of the Madarsas already have facility of modern education including computer and English but Sibal’s plan is little bit different. “Actually I want to introduce vocational education in these madarsas which will equivalent to the CBSE’s Secondary and Senior Secondary School. These include courses like automobile, food & beverages, hospitality, computer, electronics and several others”, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal says adding that after completion of the course the students will get 10th or 12th certificate from the CBSE. Religious teaching will also continue with these courses in the Madarsas.
But institutions like Darul-Uloom of Deoband, Nadwatul Ulema, Jamat-e-Ulema and several other institutions may come ahead for the protest against Sibal’s reforms in the Madarsas. Even Sibal himself admits this. “Several institutions including Deoband may come to protest against these reforms”, he says. But as these reforms will ultimately benefit the Muslim community by expanding there horizon as well as employability”. In such a situation “I am ready for confrontation too. I am not afraid of anybody”, Sibal says.
Though Sibal backtracked on the issue of single board for schools throughout India by saying that he had never talked about state board as he has only CBSE and he can plan about CBSE only. States will take their own decision about their schools and boards, he said. It is notable that Sibal had faced severe criticism on the issue from his own party leaders. Even some of the Congress and UPA ruled states too had opposed the plan by saying that the education comes under concurrent list of the Constitution.
