Sibal meets Clinton, talks Indo-US Education Council

India’s Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal emphasized to establish an India-US Education Council to accelerate co-ordination between India and US on education sector. The issue came during a meeting of Kapil Sibal with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The proposed Council will have academics, entrepreneurs and government representatives as members. US Secretary Clinton too has welcomed the proposal to set up India-US Education Council.

Sibal also mentioned that 14 Innovation Universities are being set up in India adding that one of which could be announced during the proposed visit of President Obama to India later this year. He also talked about educational reforms in India and requirements of more colleges and universities in the country.

The two leaders also discussed the use of ICT for better Teaching- learning capabilities, research collaborations and other areas of co-operation in education. They also discussed about the interest shown by US universities in establishing institutions in India.
