Low Cost Access-cum-Computing Device having cost of Rs. 1500/- will be put on intensive laboratory and field tests across the country. The test will ensure suitability and adaptability of the equipment in the versatile geographic and climatic condition of the country.

The decision was taken today in the meeting of National Apex Committee and Project Approval Board of National Mission on Education through ICT. Newly established IIT Rajasthan has been allotted two projects for purchase of 1 lakh such devices and carrying out intensive test in this regard. The project has been planned to provide connectivity to the polytechnics in the country.

The meeting was chaired by Human Resource Development Minister, Kapil Sibal. D. Purandeswari, MOS, HRD, Secretary, DOT; Scientific Secretary to Principal Scientific Advisor; Chairman, UGC; Directors of IITs and other Central Institutions and Vice-Chancellors of many Central Universities attended the meeting.
