YUVA Express has now connected Delhi from Maharashtra too. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today flagged off a weekly Yuva Express AC Chair Car Train between Delhi and Bandra from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

Dikshit said that new train would provide facilities to the youth between age group of 18 to 45 years and passengers of low income group/unemployed youth. Youth will be charged as concessional rate though normal fare of travel will be charged from general passengers.

The train will reserve 60% accommodation for the youth and passengers of low income group whereas the remaining accommodation will be available to all other passengers. Youth and low income group passengers will have to present a proof of their date of birth as well as the registration certification of employment exchange etc to get concession in the fare at the time of the booking of the ticket as well as while traveling in the train. MoS Railway KH Muniyappa, Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit and other senior officials of Railway were also present on the occasion.

Local MP Sandeep Dikshit said that Yuva Express signifies contribution of youth in development. He also remembered Swami Vivekanand who continues to be a Light House of noble ideals. MoS, Railway, Muniyappa said that this is the second Yuva Express train, the first was flagged off on 3rd January, 2010 between New Delhi and Howrah.

The 165 year old Indian Railway is concentrating on ‘YUVA Trains’ these days. Railway has finalized a pilot project to run the train between Delhi to Mumbai and Delhi to Kolkata route. 60 percent of the coaches will be reserved for ‘YUVA’ passengers aged between 15 to 45 years.

These trains are being introduced for the unemployed youths of the country. The train fare of the YUVA will be comparatively economical than the normal trains. It is notable that during the rail budget 2009-10 Rail Minister Mamta Banerjee had announced to run “YUVA Trains” dedicated for the younger generation. The fare of the train will not exceed to rupees 299/- upto 1500 kms and rupees 399/- upto 2500 kms. However, the traveller will have to produce a certificate related to his/her age to get the benefit of the train.
