IGNOU has launched five new academic programmes in law. These programmes include PG Diploma in Environmental Law with WWF, India, PG Diploma in Criminal Justice, Certificate in International Humanitarian Law with International Committee of Red Cross(ICRC), Certificate in Anti-Human Trafficking, in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes and (UNODC) and Certificate in Co-operation , Co-operative Law and Business Laws.
The PG Diploma in Environmental Law , to be offered jointly by IGNOU and WWF, Centre for Environmental Law, will be delivered through distance as well as online mode. It is a tailor –made programme for professionals working in the field of environment. The Post-Graduate Diploma in Criminal Justice (P.G.D.C.J.) is a one year programme which will be delivered exclusively through the distance education mode. This programme will help learners keep pace with emerging developments in criminal justice and enhance the competencies of the professionals working in the area of criminal justice. The programme is open to Graduates in law, criminology, social work and functionaries of Criminal Justice Administration.
Last date for submission of applications for all the five programmes is 30th June 2010. Candidates may contact IGNOU for further details.

Junior Bachchan, Abhishek and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today launched WWF’s Earth Hour 2010 at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) office in New Delhi. The Earth Hour is being observed on March 27, 2010 from 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M this year.
As a concerned individuals for the planet, Abhishek along with Sheila Dikshit lit the ‘candle of hope’ encouraging citizens of India to ‘switch on’ their minds and showcase solidarity and commitment towards climate change and energy conservation by ‘switching off’ the light for one hour. They also took pledge to intensify campaign for this purpose. They were joined by Ravi Singh, CEO of WWF India. Earth Hour 2010 is expected to be a culmination of over one billion people around the globe, in more than 6000 cities and towns worldwide, turning off lights and showing support for action on climate change.
Interacting with media Abhishek Bachchan said, “as responsible citizens of this planet, it is extremely crucial for us to address the colossal problem of climate change through ensuring responsible action and adopting a sustainable way of life. It is time that we take a collective pledge to ‘switch on’ our minds and take one simple step to ‘switch off the lights’ on March 27, 2010 from 8:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.”
According to Ravi Singh, CEO, WWF India, the campaign will be joined by 92 countries and 878 cities.

IGNOU and World Wide Fund – India (WWF-I) will jointly run Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law. IGNOU’s Centre for Environmental Law and and WWF-I have signed an MOU today in this regard. The joint programme will be available at IGNOU from July 2010.
Rajshekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU said on this occasion that the university is also interested to introduce new programme in conservation of Species and Biodiversity.
Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO, WWF-I said that the programme would spread knowledge and awareness about environmental and legal matters to a wider range. He said that the main issue facing environmentalists today was the lack of knowledge among people about the repercussions of climate change and dwindling species. The new programme will change the scenario, he said.
