South Campus of Delhi University today got its Homeopathic dispensary in the campus. This is the first Homeopathic dispensary in Delhi University. Inaugurating the dispensary Delhi’s Health Minister Kiran Walia said that the government will open more Homeopathic dispensaries in the city and the university.
Speaking on the occasion she said that Homeopathy is an important system of medicine and it provides medical treatment at very economical rates in comparison with other systems of medicine. It needs to be promoted in the city, she said. She also promised better health facilities in the Health Centre of South Campus.
Next time if you plan to visit South Campus of Delhi University keep your lunch box and water bottle with you or keep yourself prepared for fast for the day. You can be deprived from a cup of tea in the campus if you are not a student or faculty of the campus. It does not matter that how important guest you are for the particular department or faculty.
This has been what exactly happening in the South Campus for last few weeks. Students, teachers, staffs as well as researchers and guests of other institutions (outside the South Campus) have been denied entry in the state of art canteen of the campus. The canteen, made of the bamboo products, had become a major attraction in the campus due to its beauty and better service. But the campus administration had put a blanket ban on all the those who do not carry an Identity Card of the Campus. Even the two senior faculty members and members of Delhi Universtiy Teachers’ Association (DUTA) executive had been denied entry in the canteen by the guards of the campus on the basis that they did not have I Card of the South Campus.
Sources in the Campus say that this has created strong resentment among the teachers as well as students of the campus. “The campus administration does not allow us to eat food in the classrooms or garden of the campus and entry in the canteen is banned. In such a situation what should we do to have our lunch or tea”, ask a researcher who visits campus library for his research purpose. Arvind Kumar, a teacher in Delhi University stopped coming in the campus after the incident saying that it is very insulting that despite being a faculty of the DU we could not get entry in the campus.
Interesting fact is that the Campus administration has shown ignorance about the development and says that it has not issued any order to restrict people in the canteen, when DUTA raised the issue with the administration. But fact is that the restriction is as usual despite the assurance given by the administration in this regard.
Delhi University’s South Campus is disturbed with the dog menace these days. The administration is disturbed so much that it has issued an official notice in this regard and made a provision to impose fine if anybody found indulged in creating the menace or pampering a dog. The amount of fine has been fixed Rs. 1000/-
The notice (SDC/GB/Notice/2009) dated- 23rd October, clearly says that the atmosphere of the campus has affected by the stray dogs as they create nuisances in the area. Those who have been working in the campus for a long time say that there are stray dogs in the campus but its number is not that much that it could be hazardous for students or teachers or other staffs. However, if the campus becomes totally stray-dog free it should be welcomed, says a senior teacher, Brij Kishore, who regularly visits campus for post-graduate teaching.
Stray dogs do not Problem is not in the working hour as there is good crowd inside the campus but in the early morning or late evening or night we really scared of such dogs, says a resident student of Geetanjali Hostel of South Campus. According to her these stray dogs suddenly appear in the campus and make difficult for us to walk on the roads of the campus. It is notable that there are two hostels in the campus apart from PG study centres and several labs.
Considering the difficulty to control dogs in the campus the administration has also invited persons who are interested in caring of such dogs.
