India and US will work together to nurture young minds to become job creators rather than mere job seekers. The visiting US Secretary Hillary Clinton today discussed the issue with the Indian Government in her visit in New Delhi.

The issue came out during the meeting with Minister of Science and Technology & Earth Sciences Vilasrao Deshmukh when the issue of Stanford-India Biodesign Programme came up. The programme is supported by Department of Biotechnology and Indo-US S& T Forum involving Stanford University, AIIMS and IIT-Delhi.

“…, about 25 high quality minds have been trained to identify major health care needs and develop cost effective solutions. I am convinced that this program will provide deployable health care solutions covering a wide socio-economic spectrum. I believe that we should try to replicate and establish several such innovative programs that will not only provide affordable health care solutions to our people but also nurture young minds to become job creators and not job seekers”, said Vilasrao Deshmukh in his speech on India US: Partnering for Innovative Solutions, in New Delhi

The visiting US Secretary of State also discussed many issues including visa for Indian Students, work permit apart from 26/11, Indo-Pak relations, Nuclear Co-operation, terrorism, investment in W. Bengal during her meeting with various leaders of the country.

By FNS
Welcome to ‘schools’ of Delhi University. As CISCE’s is going to announce its 10th and 12th results in next few hours the mission admission in undergraduate courses at various colleges of Delhi University will automatically take off. Though formal admission process will start on 15th June when the first cut-off will come out. But the colleges have converted into schools for 1st year students of science stream after the introduction of semester system.

At least students of science stream at various colleges have experienced so after the introduction of semester system. Not just students but parents of the students too are surprised with the change. Are the colleges’ activities limited to just studies and exams, they ask. Where is time or plan for holistic development for our children?

“It is better to convert Delhi University as a trust for schools so that our wards could take part in different activities during different periods rather than just study and pass the papers”, they fumes.

On the other hand about three thousand students studying in various science courses under the semester system have raise the issue of relevancy of semester system in DU through their signature campaign.
Mayank Chaudhary, a student of B.Sc (Programme) at St. Stephen’s says that all other co-curricular activities have almost ended due to the continuous pressure of exams and practical.

Students also raised questions on Monday while interacting with media that why new students should come to DU and study under such a huge pressure and no plan for holistic development when several professional courses are available outside the DU with better employment prospects. If government is planning something and university is implementing it is okay but it can not be done at the cost of student’s career.

Give us time to prepare for other exams too so that we could get better job in the market, says a student from Miranda House. We are not here just for degree, she says.

By FNS
The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today told top scientists of the country to think ahead of the times and out of box.

In his address during the inauguration of 98th Indian Science Congress the Prime Minister said “The time has come for Indian science to once again think big; think out of the box; and think ahead of the times. The time has come for India to produce the Ramans and Ramanujans of the 21st Century.”

Terming the decade as the “Decade of Innovation” he said that there is no better way to do that than to salute the creativity and the genius of our scientists and engineers. He said that university is the vital link in the chain of science teaching and research and the base of educational system is not extended height of the pyramid of excellence can not be achieved.

He also urged the teaching community to strengthen both the teaching and research sides of university system.

But at the same time he said that universities should to be more hospitable to creativity and genius, and less captive to bureaucracy and procedure. They should be more open to talent and to the challenge of new ideas.
