Subject related stress is still a big issue among the students of 10th and 12th. CBSE Counseling unit has been receiving maximum number of calls related to the subject related matters especially for Mathematic, Science and Social Sciences. When fachcha.com contacted CBSE counseling unit its counselor though denied to be identified but said that they are receiving maximum number of calls for subject related issues and how to achieve maximum marks in their exams.
“XIIth students are worried about subjects like Mathematics and Science while students of Xth are concerned about social sciences too apart from Mathematics and Science subjects”, told a counselor of CBSE to fachcha.com identifying herself as a ‘representative of CBSE’. “Students are okay with language papers and hardly anyone needs any counseling for language papers”, she said.
Other queries are related to time management, roll numbers, learning process also coming from the students as well as their students, according to another counselor. CBSE is also receiving calls related to grading system and its conversion into numeric system and abolition of 10th board examinations.
CBSE had started first phase of annual counseling from 1st of February to overcome anxiety and examination related stress. 52 Principals, trained counselors, psychologists from CBSE affiliated schools are providing their services through counseling unit of CBSE. They belong to various locations like Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Meerut, Jaipur, Faridabad, Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam, Jamnagar, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Bangalore, Guwahati, Pune, Bhilai and other locations. Nine new regional and sub-regional Science Centres will be started in the next three years. According to official sources of the Government of India these centres will be opened in states like Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rajsthan, Maharashtra and Assam.
While Maharashtra will have one regional centre at Pimpri Chinchwad and one sub-regional science centre at Solapur, Karnataka will have two regional science centres in Manglore and Dharwad.
The sub-regional science centre has already been completed in Solapur of Maharashtra. Another sub-regional centre at Jorhat, Assam will be completed in 2013. Other centres will be established in Ranchi, Jaipur, Raipur and Coimbatore.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has advocated for the better salaries and facilities for scientists. He has said that they should be “treated differently than other Government employees” in terms of service and salary matters if the talented youths to be retained in the field of science.
In his address during the foundation stone laying ceremony of National Institute for Science Education and Research (NISER) in Bhuvneshwar, Odisha on Sunday, he said that career in science and technology should be attractive. He stressed upon improvement in remuneration and to ensure integrity in the candidate selection process. The Prime Minister said that scientists having PhD qualification are getting lesser salaries than engineers, doctors and management graduates.
Showing his concern that best young minds are not coming in science the Prime Minister emphasized on the need of developing better infrastructure at the school and college level for science education.
