Year 2009 has been unique for the national capital Delhi in terms of education prestigious Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT) elevated as National Institute of Technology (NIT) category to cater the need to quality technical education on one hand Delhi College of Engineering became Delhi Technological University (DTU) on the other hand.
Two other universities, Ambedkar University and National Law University were already been established in 2008. Government schools performed much better than the much- hyped Public schools, Central Schools and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Students of government schools have achieved 124 merit certificates in senior secondary examinations.
In a major step the HRD ministry decided to abolish the 10th board examination and made it optional. Establishment of 16 new central universities, decision to allow evening polytechnics and engineering college were major steps this year.
About 200 students from 15 technical institutions in Delhi came on street today to create awareness about Commonwealth Games through Cycle Rally. Students from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology (NSIT), Ambedkar Institute of Business Studies, women polytechnics like-Kasturba Polytechnic for Women and Meera Bai Polytechnic for Women are participating in the Rally. The 15-km rally has been organized in an endeavour to create awareness on upcoming Commonwealth Games-2010. Delhi Knowledge Development Foundation under the aegis of Department of Training and Technical Education (DTTE), Govt of Delhi has organized the rally. The 15-km Cycle Rally was flagged off by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from Rajghat.
The rally commenced from Rajghat and covered Ajmeri Gate, Paharganj, Rani Jhansi Marg, Old Baraf Khana, Tees Hazari, ISBT, Mori Gate, G.P.O., Red Fort and culminated at Rajghat.
Addressing the participants of rally Dikshit said, “It is a matter of great pride for all of us that Delhi will be hosting the Commonwealth Games-2010 and the Cycle Rally is just a step towards spreading awareness about it. Cycling is not just an environment friendly option but also promotes a healthy way of life. The Rally is in conformance to the objective of XIX Commonwealth Games-2010 to encourage sports development and physical recreation and promote the shared values of integrity, fair play competence, team work, commitment to excellence, respect for gender equality and tolerance.”
