“I am sure the special emphasis being laid on broad-basing the NCC activities to expand its reach to the rural and semi urban areas by locating maximum new raisings in such areas will energize and give an opportunity to the youth of such areas in contributing their bit towards nation building”, the minister said.

It is notable that NCC is adding two lakh more cadets in the coming days by adding over one dozen new NCC units.

These students have been practicing hard to participate in the Parade on the 26th January. These students are apart from NCC cadets participating in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi. Over 100 cadets from Jammu and Kashmir too are participating in the RD Camp this year.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today visited the camp and interacted with the cadets. She also watched various models, prepared by the cadets, and asked NCC Director General Lt. Gen. P S Bhalla to make efforts to attract more and more youths to join NCC.

Addressing the cadets during her visit to NCC Republic Day Camp, she said that the NCC cadets acquire excellence in all required fields during their training in the NCC and are trained meticulously to face any challenges in their life. She also appreciated the role of NCC cadets in rendering their cooperation in making CW Games a grand success

The CM was received by the DGNCC, Lt. General R.K. Karwal, AVSM, SM Bar, VSM. She was presented a Guard of Honour by the cadets from all three, Army, Navy and Air Force Wing.

Interacting with media after inauguration of NCC’s Republic Day Camp 2011 in New Delhi, the Vice President said that the nation would be benefited if four aspects of NCC training – discipline, physical fitness, team work and social services are imbibed by everyone.

Replying a question regarding mandatory NCC training he said that there are limitations and practical problems to make it feasible and we need to overcome from these problems to make it reality. He said that there is no doubt that compulsory NCC training would have a favourable impact on the society and nation.

Earlier, the Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari inaugurated the Republic Day Camp and called upon the cadets to come forward to build a strong nation. He said that the cadets, hailing from different parts of the country, represent a ‘Mini India.’

Cadets drawn from all the three wings (Army, Navy and Air Force) presented a guard of honour to the Vice President on his arrival at the NCC camp. 1950 cadets drawn from 17 NCC Directorates covering all the states and union territories of the country, are participating in the RD Camp. The cadets will participate in cultural, national integration awareness and institutional training competitions during the month long Republic Day camp.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) will add two lakh more cadets in the coming years. Government has already approved a plan to increase NCC’s strength from 13 lakh to 15 lakh. This was told by the Director General NCC Lt. Gen R K Karwal today in New Delhi.

Interacting with media in a press conference coinciding with the NCC Republic Day Camp 2011, Lt. Gen Karwal said that fifty new Battalions will be raised in the NCC to accommodate new NCC cadets. However, the process will take five year to complete, he added.

Talking about opportunities for NCC cadets apart from defence services Lt Gen Karwal said that there was big demand from the corporate sector for NCC Cadets for security and other jobs. Many industries also give preference to NCC “C” certificate holders for various jobs because it is considered that NCC Cadets are more disciplined and punctual, he added.

According to him Annual Republic Day Camp will be inaugurated on Thursday by the Vice President of India Mohd Hamid Ansari. 1,950 cadets, both Boys and Girls from various parts of the country, are participating in the month-long camp.

The 14-member NCC team at 22000 feet high Gangotri-1 peak. The peak is considered very challenging and interesting. The team has reached Delhi recently after completion of the expedition.
