Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) Dr. A K Agrawal has been elected President of the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) today. Dr. Agarwal is currently Additional Director General of Health Services of government of India also. He has been elected by 20 member electorate body of the DMC. Dr. Vinay Aggrawal, a Dr. B N Roy awardee, has been elected as the Vice-President of the council. According to Girish Tyagi, Secretary of DMC, over 40,000 medical practitioners of Delhi are member of the DMC.
Environmental factor contribute as much as 30% of the total burden of illness in a society. Inaugurating an International Conference on “Preventing emerging occupational and environmental risks in South Asia and beyond” Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that occupational and environmental hazards are being noticed in fast developing economies and rising exploitation of natural resources.
The Conference has been organized by Maulana Azad Medical College in collaboration with collegium Ramazzini, Itlay and Drexel University School of Public Health, Philadelphia.
Insisting upon a better social security system the Chief Minister said that people can be prevented from several diseases if adequate initiatives are taken to prevent and control the harmful chemical and hazardous materials and employing of safer technology.
