Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Wednesday said there is a need to assimilate better technology and cutting edge systems in all agencies involved with security of the nation to prevent a biological attack.

“If this trend of terrorism is allowed to continue, it is possible to even see terrorists attempting biological attacks on consumables like water and milk, which are sourced from multiple points, stored and processed in a central location and distributed to multiple regions simultaneously,” said Kalam, while delivering the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Memorial Lecture here.

“To match and counter such threats, there is a need of assimilation of better technology and cutting edge systems in all agencies involved with security of the nation. As defence experts, all of you may like to study, research and deploy the counter terrorism technologies of the future in all its training,” the former president said.

He said the role of Armed Forces is beyond being confined to merely war scenarios.

“With its skilled human resources, technological expertise and the spirit of national service, the Armed Forces has contributed (to the nation) even in time of peace,” Kalam said.

A top Canadian university will confer an honorary doctorate degree on former Indian president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam next week.

The University of Waterloo, in the city of BlackBerry, will host the renowned space scientist and honour him with an honorary degree in the humanities. The world famous university had also hosted the former Indian president during his visit here in April 2008 to deliver a public lecture on the subject of ‘Canada and India-Partnership in Global Development.’

During his visit, Kalam will also deliver a public lecture on the topic of ‘Science is Borderless: The future belongs to science and those who make friends with science.’

To be delivered in Toronto Sep 30, the lecture has been organized by the Canadian Club which often invites famous people from around the world to share their views on major issues.

Apart from visiting the University of Waterloo, the former president will also deliver lectures at the University of Toronto in Toronto, McMaster University in Hamilton near here, Brock University in St Catharines near Niagara Falls, and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Kalam will also speak on the burgeoning Canada-India partnership at a luncheon Sep 29 at the Canada-India Mining and Metals Forum in Toronto. An Indian delegation led by Vijay Kumar, secretary in the ministry of mines, will attend the three-day forum from Sep 27.

“We have 30-35 participants coming for India to interact with Canadian mining companies and investors for promoting partnership between the two countries in this sector,” V.I. Lakshmanan, co-chair of the Forum, said.

While former President APJ Abdul Kalam was discussing teacher-student relationship at St. Stephens College the teachers of Delhi University were either out of the college or on the street against the apathetic attitude of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Deepak Pental towards teachers and students.

These teachers were observing one -day strike against the Vice-Chancellor and later on they sat on Dharna in front of V-C office. These teachers were opposing semester system at the undergraduate level and demanding adequate infrastructure and manpower for implementation of the system in the university.

As a result both teachers and students were stayed away from most of the colleges. On the other hand dharna has attracted a large gathering in the university. Later on, the VC had to deferred the meeting of Executive Council of the university amid the strong protest. “It is a big success for us. Semester system can not be imposed without proper infrastructure and manpower” Aditya Narayan Mishra, President DUTA, told fachcha.com

‘Primary teacher is the most important for children after parents’
Former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam used to feed deer’s child by his own hand. The child was so small and incapable that it was unable to get milk from its mother. Witnessing this the former President Kalam started feeding it with bottle in the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s park. When he was leaving the Rashtrapati Bhavan the deer came to him and gave him the most emotional moment during his tenure at the highest office of the country. This was shared by former president Kalam during an interaction with the schoolgirls at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Defence Colony in Delhi today.

The former President stayed at the school for over two hours and discussed several issues with schoolgirls. Kalam told that primary teacher is the most important person after the parents who shape a man’s life. Other teachers just educate the man. He said that how his primary teacher told him about flying of a bird and it revolutionized his life. Later on he devoted his life to develop missile.

Replying to a question he said that the age of women empowerment has come and it will continue further. According to a senior officer of education department he had strictly told to the organisers to not make formalities like welcome address and other things. Accoding to Seema, a student of the school, it was an unbelievable moment for us. We were so exited to see him so close and talking to us that we could not mention it.
