The main objective the programme was to enhance the use of IT in areas of a citizen’s interest by adopting simple and commonly used IT practices and methods for day to day activities. N. Ravi Shanker, Additional Secretary, Department of IT, Government of India, said that ICT played a crucial role in skill formation and empowering people. It was because of the reason DOEACC’s Certificate Course in Computer Concepts (CCC) is available in Hindi, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Manipuri, Malayalam and English, he said.

V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, VC, IGNOU said that IGNOU has chalked out a plan for IT literacy. He also informed about various programmes about IT literacy and other programmes run by the university.

C. Muralikrishna Kumar, Senior Adviser (C& IT), Planning Commission said that the government has identified strategy was to enhance skills and faster generation of employment. K. R. Srivathsan, Pro VC, IGNOU too presented his views on the occasion.

The Diploma in Chinese language and Culture (DCLC) is one-year programme and can be completed in maximum two years duration. The programme also intends to train learners about the basic culture of China by introducing China’s political system, economy and general knowledge of the country, says Prof. G. Media workshops too have been planned from June 2011 to February 2012, building a core network of media reporting on routine immunization.

David McLoughlin, Deputy Representative, UNICEF India, said that it would help improve the penetration of the routine immunization programme in the most remote areas of the country through an effective network of informed journalists.

Shambhu Nath Singh, Director, School of Journalism & New Media Studies (SOJNMS), IGNOU, said that the effort involves an innovative use of technology to train grassroots journalists in India.

A booklet by UNICEF on “Adolescence: An Age of Opportunity” was also released by David McLoughlin and Angela Walker, Chief of Advocacy & Partnerships, UNICEF India on the occasion.

In-house faculty supplemented by well known media professionals will support the programme. Graduates with minimum of 50% marks are eligible to apply for the entrance test. The last date for submission of the application for entrance test is 30th June 2011.

IGNOU Vice Chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pilliai and Vice Admiral, Indian Navy, M.P. Muralidharan signed the MoU in the capital today in presence of Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chief of Naval Staff.

“The pact combines synergies of both institutes and is thus named ‘Sagardeep’. We aim to figure out the requirements of the country in terms of knowledge, skill and training capabilities, Pillai said on the occasion.

Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chief of the Naval Staff in his address said on the occasion that It is a second coming for naval officers who retire in their mid 30’s. Many acquire degrees on their own but this is a unique initiative which shall open doors of education to all the sailors.

According to the programme a sailor will require to earn a total of 96 credits during three years’ duration, i.e. 32 credits for each year of the degree course. An individual will be permitted to take his third year of graduation degree with IGNOU only after having obtained an associate degree with Navy-IGNOU Community Colleges (NICC), within five years of having completed his associate degree.

IGNOU has recognized 19 training schools and establishments of Indian Navy as NICCs for the purpose. These colleges will function as autonomous institutes for carrying out academic training and administrative responsibilities.

IGNOU started the programme in association with Apollo Hospitals. The idea was to prepare students for jobs such as ward secretary, front office staff, patient care executive and other supportive jobs, says Rachna Agarwal, programme coordinator.

She says that the programme consists of two courses – Personality and Skill Development and Management of Health Insurances. The duration of the programme is six month

IGNOU has announced admission programme for various undergraduate courses, diploma and advanced diploma courses. The programme has been announced for July 2011 session.

Interested candidates may contact IGNOU or its regional centres for prospectus and application forms. Completed application forms can be submitted by 29^th July.

IGNOU signs MoUs for educational exchange with Chinese Universities

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today inaugurated Community College at Manesar. The college will soon start 20 new courses for skill development.

These include courses on security, automobiles repair, fabrication, electrical, electronics, ICT, printing, garments, fire safety management, water harvesting management, tourism and hotel management, foreign language (Spanish and French) and others.

The college, started in association with IGNOU, launched five courses initially including Diploma in BPO, Finance & Accounting, Fire Safety, Security Management, Front Office Management and Housekeeping. Institute for Competency Advancement of Teachers (iCAT) was also inaugurated on the occasion.

Chief Minister said that the state government would work hard to development of skill of both teachers and students of the state and to increase younger generation’s employability.

Mahender Partap Singh, Revenue and Technical Education Minister, Haryana, Sukhbir Kataria, Minister of State for sports and youth affairs, agriculture & cooperation and V N Rajashekharan Pillai were also present on the occasion.
