As the climate change has emerged as one of the biggest threats for the mankind the green building has become the latest buzz in the country. In a recent move all the 12 new Central Universities, established recently, have been advised to design and construct their building as green building. Till now building of a college of Delhi University, Maharaja Agarsen College, is being constructed as green building.

It is notable that 15 new Central Universities have been established in the country recently. While three universities have been upgraded as Central University, out of these 15, rest of the universities have yet to construct their building. Though no separate fund provision has been made for the purpose but the universities have been told to use the UGC grant for the purpose. The green building has features like energy efficient design, conservation of natural resources, energy efficient devices, renewable energy system and several others.

Copenhagen University in Copenhagen, the venue of UN Climate conference, has been constructed as green campus aiming to reduce electricity bill by at least 20 percent by 2012. The campus has included all features of a green building. However, experts say that the green building requires 30 to 40 percent extra funds than the normal buildings.
