The city government has raised concerns regarding survival of the large number of saplings planted in the various parts of the city by Environment Department. Raising voice to fight against pollution the Chief Minister said during the annual address on Tuesday at Delhi Secretariat that planting more and more trees in the city is the only way to check pollution. But at the same time she also said that there is a need to concentrate on the better survival rate of the saplings.
She said that though the government has planted over 10 lakh saplings in the city but there is need to see that how many of those have survived. She complemented the efforts of students, eco clubs, Delhi parks and garden society, school children, market associations, RWAs and others in making Delhi the greenest capital in the world.
She also made a word of caution about raising number of private vehicles in the city and said that it is good in term of prosperity but it would invite diseases related to breathing problems in the next five six years if the trend continues.
“We must concentrate on nurturing the planted saplings with an aim to improve their survival rate. The greenery is the only tool to overcome air pollution and only way to earn carbon points. Delhi can boast of having the largest number of vehicles in the country. This reminds us of our commitment to conserve natural resources”, she added.
