Teachers of Delhi University are ready to open fronts against Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh during the General Body meeting of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA). Already confronting with various issues including evaluation of semester papers and other issues DUTA will try to get mandate for agitation to press their demands.
“University administration has been violating all the statutory provisions for long time and EC and AC have made almost defunct so that the current administration could take decision arbitrarily, Amardev Sharma, President DUTA, told fachcha.com.

According to him several issues will be discussed in the General Body meeting on Tuesday. These include decisions of HRD, functioning of Delhi government funded college, bills, DU related issues apart from teachers and students related issues.

Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will bring a white paper on the extremely high score to the students during the semester examination. DUTA has already opposed it and demanded a probe into the whole issue.
According to DUTA office-bearers the high-score is a big farce and playing with students’ career. According to Amardev Sharma, Prsident DUTA, the way marking has been done during the evaluation of the first semester examination is the clear indication that university administration is bribing students to get support for the semester system. This type of evaluation system is neither good for Delhi University nor for students.
DUTA has already started working on the project and would soon come out with the paper, he adds.

Teachers of Delhi University today sat on dharna demanding to end apathetic attitude of the university administration towards teachers and educational community of the university. Several teachers reached to participate in dharna by taking casual leave as the university administration had made it clear that no earned leave will be granted to participate in dharna.
Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has been pressing for several demands including appointment of teachers in the university, meeting with Vice-Chancellor, action on principals of Ram Lal Anand college and Dayal Singh College and many others. DUTA has also opposed announcement of the four-year bachelor degree programme without any consultation with the statutory bodies like Academic Council and Executive Councils. DUTA President Amardev Sharma and former President Aditya Narayan Mishra also raised the issue of high scores in semester examination. Later on, DUTA submitted a memorandum to the VC office regarding their demands.
Meanwhile, teachers’ organization AAD has requisitioned a meeting of the DUTA Executive to discuss the letter of the Registrar Dated 10th January 2012 which has not only wrongly quoted the order of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi but has also threatened the teachers of serious consequences for no reason at all. Janmejoy khuntiya, General Secretary of AAD, has demanded thorough discussion on the negative attitude of the University officials, particularly the Registrar.

Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) strongly criticized efforts of image building by Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh and demanded probe into recent episode of very high marks to the students during the first semester examination. DUTA President Amardev Sharma alleged that such high marks have been given to the students on the basis of fake evaluation just to gain cheap popularity for semester system.
DUTA also raised the issue of appointment of teachers in the university. According to Sharma 4,000 seats are still vacant in the university and university administration has stopped recruitment process. DUTA has also given a call for dharna on 12th January outside the VC office. However, classes will be organized as usual as teachers will participate in dharna after attending their classes.

The issue of fixed term appointment for principals of DU’s colleges is again gaining momentum. Teachers’ outfit of Delhi University has resurrected the demand making regulations in this regards on the line of the guidelines issued by UGC for it. Demand for calling Executive Council meeting to implement the guideline has also been raised by them.

According to them the UGC has fixed the tenure of the college principals for five years. But it has not been implemented as yet.

There are several colleges where principal’s posts are vacant and some colleges have made ad-hoc arrangement for such vacant posts. These include colleges like ARSD, Daulatram College, Hansraj College, Shyamlal College and some others. These colleges could not appoint their principals in absence of clear guidelines of Delhi University in this regard.

Though the recruitment process was started during the tenure of last Vice Chancellor Prof. Deepak Pental but could not continue as several issues came in the mid-way, says J. Khuntia, General Secretary, Academics for Action and Development (AAD).

He also demands to make provision so that the principals take classes apart from heading administration of the institution.

Meanwhile, AAD and DUTA have welcomed the decision of Delhi University’s decision to extend the services of the ad-hoc teachers, working in various Colleges of DU, till the last working day of the current academic session 2010-11, i.e. 7th June 2011 and new notification regarding health schemes.

Teachers’ Association of Delhi University today fumed over the DU administration’s attempt to provide autonomy to the colleges by destructing the federal structure of the university. It has also condemned the plan to introduce new combination of subjects in colleges and to scrap Honours courses at undergraduate level.

“The DUTA condemns the DU administration’s reported campaign to create the
DU Colleges as separate entity outside the ambit of DU. The very statement made by
DU administration that the DU plans to scrap Honours Courses, offer new subject
combinations to students and would like Colleges to award their own degrees is highly
deplorable and the DUTA cannot allow such situation to prevail in the University of
Delhi”, said Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) in a statement.

It has said that the statutory body i.e. Academic Council and Executive Council have already rejected such proposals as those were destructive and would erode federal character of the university.
