DUTA General Body to open front against VC

Teachers of Delhi University are ready to open fronts against Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh during the General Body meeting of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA). Already confronting with various issues including evaluation of semester papers and other issues DUTA will try to get mandate for agitation to press their demands.
“University administration has been violating all the statutory provisions for long time and EC and AC have made almost defunct so that the current administration could take decision arbitrarily, Amardev Sharma, President DUTA, told fachcha.com.

According to him several issues will be discussed in the General Body meeting on Tuesday. These include decisions of HRD, functioning of Delhi government funded college, bills, DU related issues apart from teachers and students related issues.

DU & DRDO to work for Cyber Security, Nanotechnology

Delhi University and DRDO will work together in the area of cyber security and nanotechnology. Both the institutions have signed an MOU to work for better academic enhancement and research and development. According to Vijay Kumar Sarawat, DG, DRDO both the institutions have been working for last one year for the collaboration and identified the areas like laser physics, cryptography, MEMS, and sensors for specific applications apart from cyber security and nanotechnology.

Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, Delhi University in his address mentioned about “Cluster Innovation Centre” and said that it will change the way of learning in Delhi University. He described signing of MoU as a Red Letter Day in the history of Delhi University.

‘Vibration’ in Shivaji College

Hindu College of Delhi University has invited application for several teaching and non-teaching posts. Teaching posts require post-graduates or above qualifications with NET while non-teaching posts requires different qualifications.

There are about 40 vacancies in different subjects in teaching categories. These include English, Economics, History, Sociology, Hindi, Political Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and many others. Ex. DUSU Prez becomes new NSUI Chief

Former president of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Rohit Choudhary will be the NSUI’s new president. Rohit Choudhary has been active in students’ politics for a long time and also held several posts in NSUI. This is first time in last over one decade that a former DUSU President has been elected as NSUI President.
NSUI is the student wing of Congress and active in various universities and colleges including Delhi University and JNU. Rohit will take charge from the former President Hibi Eden. Hibi elected as an MLA in Kerala last year.

Teachers’ protest at St. Stephens

Teachers of St. Stephens College sat on dharna on Friday demanding to stop harassment of Vice-Principal M S Frank. The teachers supported by various teachers’ organizations alleged that the college administration had been continuously harassing the Vice Principal on different false charges. Teachers demanded to withdraw these charges immediately.

DUTA to bring white paper on high score in semester exams

Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) will bring a white paper on the extremely high score to the students during the semester examination. DUTA has already opposed it and demanded a probe into the whole issue.
According to DUTA office-bearers the high-score is a big farce and playing with students’ career. According to Amardev Sharma, Prsident DUTA, the way marking has been done during the evaluation of the first semester examination is the clear indication that university administration is bribing students to get support for the semester system. This type of evaluation system is neither good for Delhi University nor for students.
DUTA has already started working on the project and would soon come out with the paper, he adds.

DU teachers sit on dharna

Teachers of Delhi University today sat on dharna demanding to end apathetic attitude of the university administration towards teachers and educational community of the university. Several teachers reached to participate in dharna by taking casual leave as the university administration had made it clear that no earned leave will be granted to participate in dharna.
Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has been pressing for several demands including appointment of teachers in the university, meeting with Vice-Chancellor, action on principals of Ram Lal Anand college and Dayal Singh College and many others. DUTA has also opposed announcement of the four-year bachelor degree programme without any consultation with the statutory bodies like Academic Council and Executive Councils. DUTA President Amardev Sharma and former President Aditya Narayan Mishra also raised the issue of high scores in semester examination. Later on, DUTA submitted a memorandum to the VC office regarding their demands.
Meanwhile, teachers’ organization AAD has requisitioned a meeting of the DUTA Executive to discuss the letter of the Registrar Dated 10th January 2012 which has not only wrongly quoted the order of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi but has also threatened the teachers of serious consequences for no reason at all. Janmejoy khuntiya, General Secretary of AAD, has demanded thorough discussion on the negative attitude of the University officials, particularly the Registrar.

DU students celebrate Youth Day

Students celebrated National Youth Day in various colleges of Delhi University on the occasion of 149th birthday of Swami Vivekanand. Main function was organized at the Swami Vivekanand statue at the main campus where office-bearers of ABVP and students of the university gathered and celebrated the main function. They distributed sweets among the students on the occasion. Programmes were organized in other colleges like Dayal Singh College, Sri Venkateshwara College, Shyam Lal College and many other colleges of the university.
Life and works of Swami Vivekanand were also discussed on the occasion and students were motivated to follow the ideals of Swami Vivekanand.
