It seems that the admission reforms has first brought metamorphosis in the process of distribution of the admission forms of the colleges. Thanks to the tacit support (& guidelines) of the Ministry of HRD and IT & Communication, colleges will be stayed away from the admission process starting from 4th June 2012, at least from the distribution of the admission forms. The offline forms for admission in various undergraduate courses will be made available to the 12 post offices in the city. A decision in this regard has been cleared by the standing committee regarding admission.
Though online mode for application will also be open for the students but offline forms can be obtained only through the post offices. Admission process for SC/ST students will be centralised, as announced by J M Khurana, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Delhi University.

By Chandan Sharma
chandan.sharma@fachcha.com

Tawakel Karman, the youngest Nobel Laureate for peace, visited capital city Delhi recently to deliver a lecture on the anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister, Babu Jagjivan Ram. Though, pictures of the 33-year old women journalist and political activists and some interviews appeared in the some section of the media, but few are aware of the fact that she has been instrumental for emergence of ‘Arab Spring’ in her country Yeman, a country in highly fluid state and puts tough conditions for women and young generation. Despite the fact she energized and mobilized the Gen-X of Sanaa University of Yemen for democracy and rest is history over there. “Arab Spring” movement started last year over there amid heavy violence. But Karman, believes that there is no tool stronger than non- violence, that was shown by Mahatma Gandhi to fight against discrimination and state’s apathy towards deprived class.

While the youngest Nobel Laureate has been inspired by the democracy and non-violence in India the Gen-X of capital city seems unfazed by these things. At least the lukewarm response of the Gen-X in the recent polls for three corporations indicates so. The polling stations at various colleges, including prestigious SRCC, have witnessed lesser casting of the votes than the total average. Only 25% polls were recorded at SRCC at North Campus of Delhi University. If go by the media reports, the participation of intellectual and dominant class too were not encouraging as if sewer, streets, cleanliness and others civic matters do not exist for them.

But, is it the real reason for apathy of Gen-X? Mumbai too has shown similar kind of trend in this concern in the recent corporation elections. What are the reasons? After results of the elections political parties, including Congress and BJP, will analyze the reason of the outcome. But do they really concerned about the democratic rights of the citizens in these corporation elections, having over 11.2 million voters ?

It may seem awkward to say but the trifurcation of MCD has snatched the democratic power of representatives and put bureaucracy on their head. The councilors, so called public representatives for civic issues, now can discuss various issue, advice the government but decision and implementation will be completely at the mercy of the so called steel frame of the country, bureaucrats. Needless to say that political parties, irrespective of their leaning or ideology, have played decisive role to bring the “democracy” at this stage. The educated intellectuals and fachchas or Gen-X are somehow aware of this supremacy of the bureaucracy on democracy, thanks to media. The apathy towards polls is a reflection of it. Results may go in favour of anybody or any party but trust is more important than the victory. Once it is lost it is difficult to bring it back. Still have time to revive the trust by reviving democratic powers of these representatives..

Because, Yeh Jo Dilli Hai …
