What is the biggest hurdle during the Commonwealth Games? Believe or not but shortage of labour is the biggest hurdle in the proper implementation of the development works for the Commonwealth Games! It may be little bit surprising but true that the city, which has always been complaining that the it has surplus working force, especially migrant labourer from the states like Bihar and UP, is facing the highest crunch for working force just few month before the Commonwealth Games.
The issue came during a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today. The meeting, attended by Delhi’s ministers, Chief Secretary, Secretaries and Heads of the Departments and senior officials of various agencies of the city including MCD, DDA, NDMC, DTC, NDPL, BSES, NHAI and others, discussed in details about the problem.
Though the solution suggested by the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to arrange additional work force on the casual basis but the fact remained there that the ‘migrant labours’ are ‘on leave’ these days. In such a situation arranging additional labour is not an easy task for the concerned departments. “Migrant labours from Bihar and UP prefer to return to their home as the rainy season is on these days and monsoon is important for them for agricultural related works. The current difficulty is related to this actually”, a senior official of city government said. According to him the government and its agencies will manage the issue very soon.
Meanwhile, diluting earlier deadline the Chief Minister has allowed to complete final finishing work by September 2010. However, she said that there will be no deviation in deadline fixed for completion of work, last date of digging and removal of Malba in respect of ongoing Commonwealth projects. The deadlines are going to stay. It was reiterated that all accumulated Malba except minor one will be removed by 10th August, 2010. After that in case of any exigency, any agency is permitted to make digging on the road will have to restore it in earlier form immediately.
Who is the best suitable candidate for the Brand Ambassedor of 2010 Commonwealth Games – Sachin Tendulkar or Saina Nehwal? While the question is haunting for a long time for both the Ministry of Sports and Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games the former Indian skipper of Indian Cricket Team Md. Azharuddin is not in a fix in this regard.
He prefers Saina over Tendulkar without any hitch in this regard. Talking to fachcha.com during a function of restaurant chain in New Delhi on Wednesday night former Indian Captain and MP Azharuddin said “He would prefer Saina as she has done excellent job in her field”. Though, he did not comment about the biggest icon of Indian Cricket, Tendulkar, in this regard but extended clear support for Hyderabadi girl in this regard.
“I do not know what Commonwealth people are doing and what exactly they want. It is not my concern. But if it is question of preference I would prefer Saina”, Azhar replied when asked about his preference between Tendulkar and Saina. The Indian ace shuttler Saina has recently won three Grand Prix championships in three consecutive weeks and become No. 2 player in the world in the field of Badminton.
Indian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs M S Gill will talk to the Sports Ministers of Commonwealth countries as the leading sportspersons are not going to participate in the mega sports event like Commonwealth Games. Gill’s statement came today during a function related to Commonwealth Games.
“It is sad that some of the leading sportspersons are not coming to Delhi’s Commonwealth Games. It appears that for the Olympic Games, performance in continental events like Asian Games and Europeans Championships are taken into account. Due to this the sportspersons do not give the same importance to the Commonwealth Games”, Gill said while dedicating a reconstructed swimming pool to the nation. He said that the issue will discussed with counterparts of Commonwealth countries during their meeting in New Delhi.
The issue has also been discussed with Suresh Kalmadi, Chairman of Organising Committee for CWG. Some sports persons, even some of the Indian sportspersons, have shown their disinterest in the participation during the mega event citing various reasons. These include some of the Olympic champions.
