NCC cadets to scale Gangotri-I

Young NCC cadets will attempt to scale the Gangotri-I summit, situated at a height of about 22,000 feet from the sea level. Twenty NCC boy cadets, aged between 17 and 19 years, from across the country, will attempt it in mid-June.

Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar today flagged off an NCC Boys Mountaineering Expedition team, led by Lt Col SS Phogat and Major KS Dhami. it will be the 65th Mountaineering Expedition by the NCC. Gangotri I, II and III peaks lie to the South West of Gangotri in Uttrakashi District of Uttarakhand.

He also released the NCC Coffee Table Book titled ‘Grooming Tomorrows Leaders’ on the occasion. The book presents the evolution, organization, training and activities of the NCC.

Earlier, Pradeep Kumar hoped the NCC cadets would win a medal or two in the 19th Commonwealth Games. In his welcome note, the Director-General, NCC, Lt Gen RK Karwal complimented the cadets for making extensive preparations for the challenging expedition.
