Delhi University Vice Chancellor’s plan to implement semester system arbitrarily got a big jolt when the Delhi High Court clearly directed the VC to sit and discuss the matter with the teachers before implementation. Single bench of Justice Sunil Gaur directed the Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental to discuss the matter with Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) in this regard on Friday before any further action regarding the implementation of semester system. The court had the view that it semester system can not be implemented hurriedly.

The court was hearing a plea filed by Delhi University to stop DUTA from organizing dharna, protest march, agitation and other form of protest. The university also sought direction from the court regarding submission of report of internal assessment in this regard. University counsel B P Singh requested the court that DUTA’s activities should be banned as they have put the university on ransom. However, court declined to give any direction.

On the issue of submission of report of internal assessment DUTA counsel Rajiv Tiwari said that it is ready to appeal all the teachers to submit their report so that students should not suffer in the whole process. The court has fixed the date of next hearing on August 28.
