In a desperate attempt to impose semester system at the undergraduate level the Delhi University Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental has instructed college principals to prepare time-table themselves on the basis of semester system if staff councils of the colleges were not ready to prepare it. He has also asked photographic evidence of such time-table that such tables have been displayed on the colleges’ notice board.
A letter in this regard has been received by colleges from university authorities. Colleges have also received a letter today demanding that students enroll themselves for semester examinations and pay fees for the same by Monday, 30 August, 2010.
While principals stayed away from making comment on the issue the teachers’ body of the university DUTA has taken a strong exception in this regard. “It shows that Prof. Pental cares little for the fate of students… Many colleges have had meetings of the Staff Councils which have reiterated their earlier decision of preparation of college time table as the annual courses are the only courses sanctioned by Ordinance V (2)”, says DUTA.
“His exclusive concern with claiming success in implementing the semester system has made Prof. Deepak Pental demand that the Principals usurp the powers of the Staff Councils and on their own prepare semester-based time tables”, DUTA adds.
