Bollywood actor Akshay Khanna is going everywhere these days for promotion of the film ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’ to make the movie a hit. Recently he visited to Shirdi and offered prayer to Sai Baba temple. Later on, a special screening of the movie had been arranged for Anna Hazare and his team. However, it is interesting to know that the movies was shown minus Veena Malik’s song. Anna too encouraged the movie actors and makers of the movies by saying that good films create awareness among the people.

The film talks about petty corruption in government offices to private and legal sectors and its makers believe that it will be hit considering anti-corruption mood among the common people.

Amir Khan has been associated with several government advertisements and promotions related to the social responsibilities. These include ‘Athithi Devo Bhav’, ‘Incredible India’ and monument protection and many others.

All these stars were in Delhi University recently and using DU colleges for shooting and promotion of their films and even for themselves. Ranbir Kapoor was recently at St. Stephen’s College for shooting and Arjun Rampal came Hindu and Gul Panag and Prakash Jha were at Ramjas College recently.

Fachcha.com tried to find out views of students and teachers of various colleges and university regarding the recent development in the temple of education. Interestingly, some of them said that there is nothing wrong while others raised eyebrows on it. Excerpts:

Mursheed, a Ph.D (Pol.Sc.) student at Jamia Millia Islamia says that it is now a tradition in all the colleges these days. But colleges like Ramjas such kind of shows should be avoided. Announcement for these type of promotions is made many days before that distracts students not only from study but also requires high security arrangement in the college. We all know dozens of students are not allowed to appear in the examination due to the lesser attendance. These types of promotions make students careless and they do not take interest in attending classes.

Neha, a student of M.A. Gender Studies, 1st yr Ambedkar University, says that there is nothing wrong in it. Everybody needs a market for their product. If someone finds his or her consumers in colleges he or she can go colleges for it. Everybody wants youth. They want to attract them in this way then it is ok. It is all about marketing strategy and nothing else. It is different thing how students take it.

Antara, a PG student of Arts Faculity, DU, says that it can be recommended after considering the subject of the movie. If the movie has good story it should be allowed.

Akanksha Tyagi, 2nd yr student at ICWI Insititute, says that entertainment is the part of life & if the film makers & stars want to connect with youth audiences directly throw a promotion trick it is good thing.

However, teachers think differently in this regard. As C. P. Singh, HoD, Centre for Media Studies, Indraprastha University says that every new thing or change is always resisted when it appears or takes place for the first time. We are nobody to say it is good or bad. What matters is how we assume it. Marketing tools in management have been changed and film promotion in colleges is one of them. And, if we get benefit this way then there is nothing wrong in it.

Dr. Vibhas Kumar, a teacher at Desh Badhu College says that it is now common practice that colleges are used for commercial ventures. It does not surprise us. But, I believe that colleges should not involve themselves officially in such events like film promotion. As far as ethics are concerned, we know it is unethical but most of the colleges doing the same for commercial or monetary benefits.

Slumdog Millionaire’s actress Freida Pinto, is working these days for Indian director Tarsem Singh’s movie ‘Immortal’. She has two more projects in hand Rupert Wyatt’s ‘Rise of Apes’ and French dirctor’s ‘Jean-Jacques Annaud’. Rise of Apes is based on the ethical issues in scientific research, especially on animal testing. Freida is also looking for a suitable role in Bollywood movies and need not to say script is her first priority.

Deepika promoting saari

What gives you better look? When the question was asked by bollywood actress Deepika Padukone her reply was Indian attire; saari. The ‘wonderful’ change has not come suddenly in her mind. Actually, she will appear in saari in her next movie ‘Khelen Ham Jee Jaan se’. She is on publicity campaign these days and traveling Delhi and other cities alongwith Abhishek Bachchan and other co-stars and director Ashutosh Gowarikar.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan will be the Guest of Honour during the closing ceremony of the IFFI. Actress Gracy Singh will be curator of the cultural programmes on the occasion. Actors Arjun Bajwa and Neetu Chandra will anchor the ceremony on the occasion. Minister of State for I&B Choudhury Mohan Jatua, will be the chief guest at the closing function.

Many Bollywood personalities may feel envious to filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar. National Film Archive of India (NFAI) will add movies of Madhur Bhandarkar in its archives. Ministry of Information and broadcasting too has shown its interest in the project. These include Fashion, Page-3, Corporate, Chandni Bar and other movies.

Wait for Safina’s movie
Fans of Safina (Saif Ali and Kareena) will have to wait long for their movie. The film ‘Agent Vinod’ was expected to release by February next year but the shooting of the movie yet to be completed. Bollywood sources say that it is difficult to complete the shooting in a month because some of the shooting of the movie has been scheduled to shoot at foreign locations. Let’s wait and watch for Safina’s new movie.
