Noted music composer A R Rahman has won two Grammy Awards at Los Angeles. With this Rahman has been included in the list of elite Indians of prestigious Grammy Award winners. It is notable that Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, guitarist Vishva Mohan Bhatt and tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain are among the other Indians who have won Grammy Award.

A R Rahman received awards for best soundtrack and best film song ‘Jai ho’ Slumdog Millionaire. The movie has already won several awards including prestigious Oscar Awards.

Veteran Cinematographer V K Murthy has been selected for Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2008 for his outstanding contribution to film industry. This is first time in the history that cinematographer has been chosen for the prestigious award.

Murthy had started his career as a violinist but later on he turned into a cinematographer. He has worked for movies like Pakeezah, Pyasa, Kagaz ke Phool, Razia Sultan, Chaudavin ka Chand and several others. Later on he also worked for mega serial Bharat Ek Khoj. He has also participated in the freedom movement.

The award carries cash prize of rupees 10 lakh and a golden lotus.

madhuri7th May 1995 was the ‘historic day’ when the then top Bollywood actress Madhuri Dikshit had invited noted artist M F Husain for a cup of tea at her residence to discuss Husain’s proposed movie Gaj-Gamini. This is part of a paper presented at Delhi School of Economics (DSE) on 20th November.
As the media report about Madhuri, that she would play a role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Krishna Shah’s new movie ‘Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story’, roaming around the prestigious Delhi School of Economics too has seemed impressed by Madhuri.
The paper “The ‘Bliss’ of Madhuri: Husain and his ‘muse” was presented in the department of Sociology and read by Patracia Uberoi at the M N Srinivas Hall of the DSE. Details has been given about how Husain impressed by Madhuri by her role in ‘Ham aapke hain kaun’. It also say that Madhuri was Kalidas’ Shakuntala at one side and Monica (named after Monica Lewinsky of US) other side for Husain. According to Patricia too much secrecy was maintained at Mehboob studio during the shooting and getting photographs of the shooting was really a difficult task. According to her it was neither a commercial movie nor an art film but ‘a film on Husain’s term’.

Maharashtra, the largest producer of the movies, wants another acting and theatre school in the state. The state, which is popularly known as the state of Bollywood Industry has planned to demand regional centre of National School of Drama (NSD) in the state. The state government has currently decided to provide space on rent in Bollywood (Mumbai)
Ashok Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra has directed to prepare a proposal in this regard after discussions with architects. The instruction has been given two days ago in a high level meeting attended by the Minister of State for Cultural affairs, Faujiya Khan and Secretary, Anand Kulkarni and other senior officials.
Chief Minister said that the concerned officers should immediately look into the long pending demand of place to NSD on rental basis at P. L. Deshpande Akademy at Prabhadevi. The state already has prestigious Film and Television Training Institute in Pune.

Though some of the designers and fashion experts had clear stand on the issue that design is more important and not the faces but the increasing number of Bollywood faces show that these celebrities are equally important to provide glamour to the event. If go by the names of such Bollywood stars the list is long enough. The list include Abhay Deol, Jayaprada, Malvika Tiwari, Neha Dhupia, Riya Sen, Raima Sen, Sohail Khan and several others. Even Olympic winner and boxing champion Vijender too has been walked on ramp to add more punches in the Fashion Week.
