Much-hyped Jaipur Literature Festival took a murky turn when the some of the speakers came out openly and attacked the state government on the issue of creating controversies about Salman Rushdie’s visit and inability to provide him protection that compelled Rushdie to cancel his visit. However, Rajsthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that the government has not stopped Rushdie from the participation in the festival. He said that the government has to consider all kind of threats, protest or views of particular society in a democratic set up.

Meanwhile, Rushdie fumed on the reports about the government’s version of the ‘threat’ for his life. He blamed the government and state security agency for the conspiracy to stay him away from the festival, in his latest tweet.

On the other hand, state police has asked video tape of the programme from the organizers in which some writers read portions of the Rushdie’s book considering protest over the development. Police has taken the step after complaints lodged against these writers. Meanwhile, writers said that they had no intention to hurt anybody’s sentiments.
