Jaipur Literature Festival completely eclipsed by Salman Rushdie episode as the issue continued to haunt on the last day of the conference. While city administration has asked clarifications regarding proposed address of Rushdie through video conferencing the organizers have not received any clear nod on the issue. However, the city administration has proposed that permission of the address could be granted if they assured the administration that no discussion or speech would take place regarding ‘Satanic Verses’.
According to the sources organizers have given their nod that they would follow the rule in this regard and pursue Rushdie to not do so. There have been series of protests on the issue of participation of Rushdie in the festival.
It is notable that the government has banned Rushdie’s book ‘Satanic Verses’ in India.
