Maha Shivratri has been celebrated throughout the country this today with full zeal. Special arrangements have been done by the administration and organisers in the cities like Varansi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devghar, Sultanganj, Delhi and many other cities. People kept fast on the day and offered prayer to Lord Shiva.
According to the belief Maha Shivratri is known as the day of marriage of Lord Shiva. People also organised several cultural programmes on the occassion.

Several functions were also organised at Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, Nepal on the occssion.
